PROMIZEL SYRUP is a sedating antihistamine. PROMIZEL is recommended for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions such as rashes, itching, nausea and vomiting, running nose, watery eyes,
coughs, colds, and other skin irritations. PROMIZEL may also be used
for short-term management of insomnia.
Composition
Each 5ml contains: Promethazine Hydrochloride BP 5mg
Dosage
>> 2 to
5 years: 2.5 to 5 ml, 2 times daily.
>> 5 to
10 years: 5 to 10 ml, 2 times daily.
Warnings and Precautions
The maximum recommended dose should not be exceeded. Drowsiness may occur and persist for hours. Patients must not drive or operate machinery when taking PROMIZEL syrup.
Should not be taken with alcohol or other drugs with respiratory depressant effect.
Contra-indications
PROMIZEL should not be given to patients with conditions such as
angle-closure glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hyperplasia, or
pyloroduodenal obstruction. PROMIZEL should also not be given to children below 2 years of age.
Side Effects
May cause drowsiness, lassitude, dizziness and incoordination, dry mouth, constipation, and gastric reflux.
Drug Interactions
Promethazine Hydrochloride may interact with barbiturates,
hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives, antipsychotics, and antimuscarinic drugs, such as atropine and some antidepressants.
Overdose
Overdose may result in excitement, tremors, hyperpyrexia,
hallucinations and convulsions. Deepening coma and cardio-respiratory collapse may follow. Symptomatic management of
the anti-muscarinic effects is recommended.
Storage
PROMIZEL should be stored below 30°C and away from moisture and light.
